Michigan football picked up another expert prediction for 2022 quarterback Nate Johnson and it’s safe to call the Wolverines the favorite in his recruitment.

When it comes to the 2022 recruiting class, there is a palpable feeling of momentum building right now for Michigan football.

Not only did the Wolverines land a huge commitment earlier this week when four-star wide receiver Tyler Morris committed, but the Wolverines have been locking up some key official visits for June and also starting to trend with more expert picks for 2022 recruits.

One of the top targets who recently was projected to Michigan football was three-star quarterback Nate Johnson out of Clovis, California.

EJ Holland over at Rivals put in a Futurecast pick earlier this week and now, his counterpart at the Michigan Insider, Sam Webb has done the same, making it two pretty significant predictions in the span of a few days for the Wolverines.

Johnson has an official visit set up with Michigan in June and while Utah and Oregon State are some other programs in the mix, with visits scheduled, the Wolverines are the clear favorite.

For one, Utah already has a quarterback committed in the class of 2022. U-M doesn’t and right now, Johnson is clearly the guy at the top of the board after Michigan missed on a number of other targets.

Don’t sleep on the three-star

Michigan football is coming off the signing of five-star quarterback J.J. McCarthy, which can always make landing another high-ranking QB hard to do.

Some staff changes or the rumor of some probably didn’t help either. But now Jim Harbaugh has his contract extension and a new quarterbacks coach in Matt Weiss, one that seems to be a perfect fit for Johnson.

Michigan coaches have even compared Johnson to Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.

It does make sense. Johnson is 6-foot-2, 180 pounds but he is a true dual-threat quarterback. His junior season was pushed into the spring and that probably hurt his recruiting rankings as he’s listed at No. 943 overall and 23rd among dual-threat quarterbacks.

Weiss was brought in to help bring some different things to the quarterback position, especially when it comes to running the ball and Johnson would be a great fit.

He’s also a recruit that’s eventually going to move up the rankings before it’s all said and done. The Wolverines did a good job of pushing themselves to the top of this recruiting battle and it looks like it could be wrapped up early this summer.
