In another huge recruiting victory for Michigan football, wide receiver Xavier Worthy signed with the Wolverines Wednesday.

People can be critical of Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh, but after what the Wolverines did Wednesday, it’s pretty clear he will be back.

At least, the recruits who signed with the Wolverines on Wednesday have to believe that and that group includes dynamic four-star wide receiver Xavier Worthy, who flirted with Alabama after committing to Michigan over the summer, but stayed with U-M in the end.

With the addition of Worthy, Michigan has now added four top-100 players on offense as five-star quarterback J.J. McCarthy also signed, as did four-star running back Donovan Edwards.

Coming into the day and even over the past week or so, there had been a lot of confidence about Edwards, but only in the last few days did the momentum start to turn with Worthy.

Following his self-guided visit to Bama for the Iron Bowl, it was hard to see how the Wolverines were going to hold off the Crimson Tide, especially without a contract extension for Harbaugh.

But in the end, Harbaugh’s assurances about wanting to be at Michigan proved to be enough and truth be told, McCarthy played a big part in keeping the class together.

As far as Worthy, the Wolverines are getting the 76th-rated player overall in the 2021 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings and he’s ranked No. 12 among wide receivers.

He’s speedy, but he also has size at 6-foot-1 and there have been numerous comparisons in the past to Desean Jackson. Michigan football fans have also dropped comparisons to Anthony Carter.

At any rate, Braylon Edwards was the last first-round wide receiver for the Wolverines and with his ability, Worthy could seriously have a chance to change that, just like Edwards could be the Wolverines best running back in a decade or two.

Certainly, things didn’t go as well on the defensive side of the ball for Michigan as Branden Jennings flipped to Maryland and Quintin Somerville flipped to UCLA. The Wolverines are still waiting on the decision of cornerback commit Ja’Den McBurrows.

But on the offensive side of the ball, if you add in the lineman and all the other skill guys such as Andrel Anthony, Christian Dixon, Louis Hansen and Tavierre Dunlap, it’s a great haul.

Tremendous actually.
