It’s early national signing day and we will keep you updated on all the official signings for Michigan football throughout the day.

It’s hard to believe but early signing day is finally here for Michigan football fans and despite everything that’s happened and not happened, things are off to a solid start.

Compared to previous years, there has been plenty of excitement for Michigan football today as the Wolverines as a couple of commits flipped, yet the Wolverines also got Donovan Edwards. Now, they are awaiting decisions from Xavier Worthy and Ja’Den McBurrows.

We will keep you posted when each recruit puts pen to paper for Michigan and so far this morning, a number of guys have already signed their national letters of intent, including five-star quarterback J.J. McCarthy.

Soon after, Junior Colson, a top-100 linebacker, also officially joined the fold. Branden Jennings has officially flipped though to Maryland. Quintin Somerville also made his decision to UCLA official too. Omarion Cooper also signed with FSU.

At this point, all of the expected commitments are in and Edwards has officially chosen Michigan football as it looked like he was going to do. Here’s why he will be a once-in-a-decade talent.

The Wolverines also got a surprise as Jaydon Hood announced he would sign early and is now officially part of the 2021 class.

A couple of hours after Edwards pulled the trigger for Michigan football, Worthy did the same.

And to cap off the night, McBurrows joined Hood in announcing that he will sign early with Michigan football, putting the Wolverines at 20 total commitments and giving them at least one cornerback in the 2021 class.

Analysis

Coming into the day, if Somerville and Jennings flip, plus Hood doesn’t sign, that leaves Michigan football at around 18 signees if its able to land McBurrows or flip Omarion Cooper from Florida State.

There’s no doubt that the uncertainty surrounding Jim Harbaugh’s contract played a role in losing Jennings and Somerville, who was tight with defensive line coach Shaun Nua, another assistant coach that might not be back next season.

Overall, though, the hits haven’t been too bad for the Wolverines. McCarthy signed already, which obviously is significant as he gives Harbaugh his first five-star recruit at quarterback and the Wolverines their top-rated passer since Ryan Mallet.

The fact that Michigan was also able to add top-100 recruits at running back and wide receiver is an impressive haul and quite possibly the best offensive group of Harbaugh’s career.

Michigan also landed Colson, a top defender and a guy with immense ability. He’s comparable to Jabrill Peppers because of his versatility and freakish athleticism.

Louis Hansen and TJ Guy were two guys some thought could waiver because of their connection to Don Brown, who is likely on his way out and they were among the first to sign.

At one time, Michigan looked like it could take 25-26 commitments into this class, so the Wolverines are going to have some work to do. But from a quality perspective, this could be one of Harbaugh’s best classes.
