Michigan Football: 5 predictions for Wolverines against Iowa
Turner and Charbonnet will turn some heads
One thing that has brought about some early-season struggles for Michigan, especially on the offensive side of the ball, has been an inability to consistently run the football.
The nagging injuries to Zach Charbonnet and Tru Wilson haven’t helped, but it seems as if both are close to 100 percent as the Hawkeyes come to town.
Much like Wisconsin, Iowa has a dominating run defense. The Hawkeyes have allowed just 77 yards per game and 3.4 yards per attempt. Contrast that with a Michigan running game that ranks 10th in the Big Ten and averages less than four yards per carry and it might seem like a mismatch.
But, the Wolverines haven’t been as healthy as they are now, either at running back or the offensive line. Jon Runyan Jr. is healthy and looked much better last week. Christian Turner had his best performance and after having limited touches the past two weeks, this feels like the week Charbonnet comes back to life.
This offensive line pushed around the likes of Wisconsin, Penn State and Michigan State last season and Saturday, it will open up holes against Iowa too and it will be enough out out-gain Iowa on the ground.
