Charbonnet is what Michigan thought he would be

Back in the offseason, running back seemed like one of the biggest question marks for Michigan football heading into 2019 but after two games, it’s not anymore. At least not when it comes to the starting job.

It’s plain as day that Zach Charbonnet is the best back on the team and the starter going forward. He has 190 yards and three touchdowns in two games and he was crucial against Army, grinding out 100 yards when nothing came easy.

No matter who is playing quarterback, whether it’s Shea Patterson or Dylan McCaffrey, Charbonnet will be a key presence in the backfield and the Wolverines need to lean on him.

UM is blessed with a solid offensive line and Charbonnet should only continue to improve. I’d be surprised if he didn’t rush for at least 1,000 yards and the only concern about running back is what happens if Charbonnet gets hurt. Depth is an issue, however, with Charbonnet, star power isn’t.
