It feels weird for Michigan football to have a bye so early but it might not be a bad thing. At any rate, here are five key takeaways from the first two games.

The Michigan football team has a strange feeling surrounding it after two games and much of that feeling is uncertainty.

Instead of the Michigan football faithful feeling optimistic after the first two games of the year against Middle Tennessee State and Army, fans fear the worst. The double-overtime win over the Knights isn’t what people expected, even though history tells us differently.

There are two sides to take with Army. One is that Michigan football played a program just outside the top-25 and one that had won 11 in a row coming into the Big House. That makes sense but it hasn’t quieted the panic that seems to have started among the fanbase, which once again fears the worst.

Admittedly, Michigan hasn’t played up to expectations so far but it also hasn’t hurt them yet. The Wolverines are 2-0 and a win over Army wasn’t enough to hurt Oklahoma’s playoff chances a year ago, so I doubt it would hurt UM’s if the team is in the hunt down the stretch.

After two games, there are a lot of questions that need answering and two weeks in Madison will provide the first big test of 2019. I’m not sure if the Wolverines will succeed but looking back at the first two games, here are some of the key takeaways before we look too far ahead.
