Starter: Christian Turner

Some of the best news of the spring for Michigan football this week was the healthy return to practice of Turner, who is the favorite to be the starter for the Wolverines next season. Chris Evans was the presumptive starter until he got into trouble academically. If he doesn’t return, Michigan will be counting of Turner to take a big step forward and so far, when on the field, he has.

Backups: Tru Wilson and Zach Charbonnet

When it comes to depth, Michigan is a little lacking at running back as we saw in the spring. Wilson averaged 5.9 yards per rush last season on more than 60 carries and is a really good pass protector. He’s Mr. Reliable right now and even though he won’t start, he will be a factor.

Charbonnet is the wildcard. He was supposed to take part this spring but missed due to an injury. He was recovering from a minor scope and should be good to go for the fall. He’s the Wolverines top offensive recruit and one of the best running backs to come to Ann Arbor in a while in terms of recruiting rankings. If he lives up to the hype, Michigan will be set. If not, depth will be an issue.
