A marquee bowl is within striking distance

To some, playing for bowl position might sound ridiculous, but it matters to me and it’s also important for the program. Michigan football played in the Citrus Bowl two years ago and beat a good Florida team.

That win gave the Wolverines momentum going into 2016. It also got Michigan its 10th win of the year and ranked No. 12 in the final AP poll, which was tied for the best finish since 2007, before UM finished 10th last season.

Still, getting to the Orange Bowl was big for Michigan. The Wolverines proved they belong among the marquee programs in the country. Good teams and good programs get into major bowl games and win them. That’s the next step for the Wolverines.

Of course, a New Year’s Six bowl berth would likely mean sweeping the final four games, which will be incredibly difficult. But if Peters is the real deal and with this defense, it can be done.
