Michigan football is trending with one of its top 2021 recruiting targets, four-star defensive lineman Rayshaun Benny.

Friday turned out to be a good day for the Michigan football program as the Wolverines landed a commitment from highly-sought wide receiver Xavier Worthy.

But that commitment also overshadowed some important news regarding key target Rayshaun Benny, a four-star defensive tackle from Oak Park, Michigan.

Benny has turned into one of the top priorities in the class and after recently picking up one crystal ball prediction, he’s picked up two more over the last two days and is now trending to the Wolverines.

The crystal ball on Friday was significant because of who it came from and that’s Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider ($). He’s a trusted source when it comes to Michigan recruiting and he doesn’t put in crystal balls lightly.

So when he does, it carries weight and that’s why it was a big deal for him to project Benny to the Wolverines, which he did with a confidence rating of six. That’s the same as Steve Lorenz, who made the same prediction earlier in the week.

However, on Saturday, the trend continued and this time, it came from Michigan State analyst Sean Scherer who actually put his confidence level at eight.

Webb explained his decision ($) was based on a few things and one of the most important was the fact that Benny and his mother are going to visit the campus on their own. It’s something Tristan Bounds did before he committed. Basketball commit Will Tschetter did the same thing.

There were other factors too. Iowa is out of the mix. And Ohio State, which is probably the top threat, seems to have taken its foot off the gas. Benny has said before that Michigan football is recruiting him harder than anyone and one of his primary recruiters is Sherrone Moore, who is in contention for 247 sports top recruiter of the 2021 class.

Shaun Nua is also in the mix as the defensive line coach and we already know he can get it done. Michigan also really needs a defensive tackle and adding Benny, who is 6-foot-5, 275 pounds and rated 189th overall in the 247 sports composite would be huge.

Benny, Donovan Edwards and Rocco Spindler are unquestionably the three most important recruits on the board and in all three cases, things seem to be going in the right direction.
