Michigan football has been active on the recruiting trail in the past week, and the results are starting to show.
Michigan coaches were restricted from going on the road for two weeks, as part of the penalty for "Burger Gate." But since then, the Wolverines have added two commitments -- both tight ends -- in the 2026 class.
Matt Ludwig, who is ranked No. 175 overall in the 2026 class, committed last Tuesday despite official visits scheduled for Georgia, Notre Dame, and others. Mason Bonner, the 6-foot-6 pass-catcher who has played receiver, also has an impressive offer sheet.
Michigan football is angling to flip LSU commitment Havon Finney Jr.
One of the Michigan football assistants who was active on the traill this past week was secondary coach Lamar Morgan. He visited Havon Finney Jr. on Wednesday, according to Ethan McDowell of The Wolverine.
Finney is an LSU commitment. He's also one of the top cornerbacks in the entire 2026 class, ranking 50th overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-2, 170-pounder out of Chatsworth, California is ranked as the fifth-best cornerback.
Finney committed to LSU back in April. Michigan football and Ohio State were also in the mix and still are. Finney's dad told McDowell,"He (Havon) loves Michigan."
There have been talks about Finney taking an official visit. Right now, according to his 247 Sports profile, he's got official visits scheduled with LSU, USC, and Ohio State.
Michigan needs to get him on campus. That's essential. Until that happens, a flip attempt probably isn't that serious.
But Michigan is gaining momentum and Finney is a dude with first-round ability. He ran a 10.82 in the 100-meter dash as a high school freshman. Michigan has had great success developing cornerbacks, and Morgan has been stellar on the trail.
I wouldn't rule out flip. It's a definite possibility, especially if the Wolverines get Finney on campus for an official visit next month.
