The face of the Michigan football quarterback room will be the same in 2026: Bryce Underwood. Some of the pieces behind him, though, will be very different.
For starters, Michigan will have a veteran backup to turn to this season, something that wasn't available a season ago due to injuries to Mikey Keene and Davis Warren.
Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi, a former starter for Colorado State, has over 6,900 passing yards. He's also got 38 career touchdown passes compared to 29 interceptions, and committed on Sunday. He's not a superstar or someone who will threaten Bryce Underwood for the job, but it's always good to have a veteran holding the clipboard.

Former LSU QB Colin Hurley adds to revamped Michigan QB Room
New QB coach Koy Detmer still wasn't satisfied in the room, so he went out and recruited another arm out of the transfer portal, as the Wolverines landed former four-star QB Colin Hurley out of the portal.

Hurley is a developmental prospect. He didn't see any action for LSU last season. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound quarterback had an impressive offer list coming out of high school that included a number of SEC programs, including Florida, Georgia, and Alabama, among many others. He was ranked No. 357 overall in the 2025 class, the same as Underwood. He's was 25th among quarterbacks via the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Hurley has four years of eligibility left compared to three for Bryce, who will probably one use two if all goes according to plan. 247 Sports ranked him as the 64th-best quarterback in the transfer portal.
Hurley joins a room that also includes freshman signees Tommy Carr and Brady Smigiel, as well as holdover Chase Herbstreit, plus Fowler-Nicolosi.
With Bryce Underwood, the ceiling for the room was always really high. Now, the floor, for this season, and in the future, is higher now, too.
