Michigan QB will enter the transfer portal but it's not Bryce Underwood

Michigan football will have to deal with some attrition in the quarterback room this offseason as another quarterback has announced plans to enter the transfer portal.

Breathe easy, Michigan fans. It's not Bryce Underwood. There hasn't been a firm commitment from Underwood one way or the other.

Underwood met with the new Michigan football head coach Kyle Whittingham on Sunday for 45 minutes. He also said he was "excited" about the hire and shared the news on his Instagram account.

Michigan football QB Davis Warren will transfer

Yet another Michigan football quarterback will move on via the transfer portal. Jadyn Davis, a four-star signee from the 2024 class, will also be leaving after limited action in two seasons. The next to go is Davis Warren, who didn't play at all in 2025 after getting injured in the Reliaquest Bowl.

Warren is best known for starting the 2024 Ohio State game. The Wolverines won 13-10 despite two interceptions. Warren was also the starting quarterback for the bowl win over Alabama last year. Prior to his injury, he threw a touchdown pass to Fred Moore, points that proved to be critical in the win.

Warren battled back from cancer to win the starting job for the Wolverines coming out of fall camp. He was benched after some struggles with interceptions early in the season, but if U-M had stuck with Warren in 2024, the Wolverines might have won more games. They won the last three with him as the starting quarterback.

It will be interesting to see where he will land. Warren could have had some value as a backup for the Wolverines, but it sounds like Kyle Whittingham is more interested in dual-threat quarterbacks. Warren also probably wants a chance to play after winning a national title as a backup in 2023.

Warren completed 139 of 223 career pass attempts (62.3 percent) for 1,288 yards and seven touchdowns. He also had 10 interceptions.
