Since Sherrone Moore was fired last week, only two Michigan football recruits have asked out of their letters of intent.

No players had entered the transfer portal, at least until Tuesday, when it was reported by Hayes Fawcett of On3 that former four-star quarterback Jadyn Davis will be entering the transfer portal on January 2nd.

At one time, there was a thought that Davis would someday be the Michigan football starting quarterback. When he first committed to the Wolverines, the blue-chip quarterback from North Carolina was rated as a five-star prospect.

His ranking started to dip as a senior, and by the time he signed with the Michigan football program, he was ranked outside the top 100 of the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Still, Davis was a highly-ranked prospect. There was hope he would develop into the next starting quarterback. This was before Bryce Underwood was on the roster, too.

Yet, during the 2024 season, when Michigan was starved for a competent quarterback, Davis didn't see the field at all. It was clear that he wasn't ready. He took some steps forward, but the throwing motion is an issue, and when he did play in the spring, or the fall, there wasn't drastic improvement.

Of course, you need to play to improve, so it makes sense for Davis to leave. It's hard to predict if Bryce Underwood will stay with Michigan football or make a similar decision. If he did, though, the Wolverines would surely target a transfer portal quarterback as a replacement.

Davis wasn't going to be the guy. I wouldn't take this to mean anything about Underwood. Davis needed a fresh start. Now, he can get one.,
