A bombshell has landed on the Michigan football program as head coach Sherrone Moore has been fired for cause by athletic director Warde Manuel.

The news of Moore's termination was reported by multiple outlets. The University of Michigan released a statement saying the following: "U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately. Following a university investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior. Biff Poggi has been appointed head football coach in an interim capacity, effective immediately."

Sherrone Moore is fired for cause

It's a stunning development for the Wolverines. Moore, who replaced Jim Harbaugh, just completed his second season as the head coach with a 9-3 record. The final game of his Michigan football coaching career will be the 27-9 loss to Ohio State.

There were message board rumors of something going on with Moore, but it didn't seem like there was anything substantial. That changed suddenly on Thursday were the reports of him being fired started to surface.

Looking ahead, Michigan will need to act quickly to contain the damage.

This is the last thing the program needed. The players will have a 30-day transfer window, which doesn't really matter that much because the portal is opening January 2nd. The Wolverines just signed a 28-player recruiting class, which expected to play for Moore. They also signed 5-star QB Bryce Underwood. Who knows what his future will bring?

Surely, a national search will take place for a replacement. But the timing is terrible. Stayed tuned for more details.
