If you have seen one recruiting commitment video, you have seen them all, right? Not so fast... Every so often, prospective recruits will give us the people what we want. While all four-star wide receiver Quentin Burrell wanted to do was commit to Michigan in front of his family out of Chicago, a pair of dark blue hats sitting next to each other were the stars of the show. Fear, and then hilarity, ensued...

Heading into Wednesday afternoon's big decision for him, these schools were Burrell's four finalists.

  • Arizona State Sun Devils
  • Michigan Wolverines
  • Missouri Tigers
  • Notre Dame Fighting Irish

While Burrell did end up picking Michigan, there was a split second where he put on a Notre Dame hat.

Placing two dark blue hats next to each other certainly played a part in this epic almost troll job here.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Burrell is the No. 6 player from Illinois, the No. 14 wide receiver in the country, and the No. 83 overall prospect in the 2027 recruiting class. The Chicago native chose between mostly schools that people from that metroplex usually go to. Arizona State is way out there, but snowbirds do tend to find their way into The Valley of the Sun in Greater Phoenix.

Even though Burrell was a strong Michigan lean coming in, the Notre Dame of it all makes it amazing.

4-star accidentally wears Notre Dame hat before committing to Michigan

You can tell by his body language that this was not what was supposed to happen. Sitting in front of him left to right were a black Arizona State Sun Devils cap, a dark blue Michigan Wolverines hat, another dark blue Notre Dame Fighting Irish one, and a black Missouri Tigers one sitting on the otherside of the table. He should have known which one was which, but he was set up for failure here.

The funny part in all this is how much disdain Michigan and Notre Dame fans have for one another. Although Burrell hails from Chicago, the Wolverines and the Fighting Irish remain two of the more popular teams in the city. Missouri has strong pull out-of-state as well. As for Arizona State, Kenny Dillingham has a great program over there at his alma mater, and you can make the playoff at ASU.

Overall, it was an innocent mistake blown out of proportions by a high school kid. These things will happen. Nobody got hurt, except for the feelings belong to people who root for Notre Dame... In the end, this is just harmless fun. Burrell chose to play for Kyle Whittingham out of high school, despite this being his first season at the helm of the program. That is a lot of trust and faith being put into him.

Ultimately, these are the type of recruiting wins Whittingham needs to get if he wants to have any real staying power at Michigan. He may be a legend from his days at Utah, but Whittingham is new to Ann Arbor. He has to clean up Sherrone Moore's mess, while trying to leave the Jim Harbaugh era behind. He may be young at heart, but he is no spring chicken. Regardless, this is a huge pickup for his team.

If only Burrell had four hats in different colors could this slightly embarrassing moment been avoided.
