I'm not sure how many Michigan football fans are Swifties but it seems like defensive coordinator Wink Martindale is at least keeping up on his pop culture.

The long-time NFL assistant and now Michigan football DC was talking about the Wolverines tight end Colston Loveland, who is a projected first-round pick. Loveland missed the USC game with an injury. He was close to playing and his status for the Minnesota game is still up in the air.

However, Wink left no doubt about what he thought of Loveland's ability, comparing him to some of the NFL's best tight ends, and made a joke about him dating Taylor Swift in a reference to Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce.

"I think it would be okay to be compared to some of those tight ends in the league, which he'll be compared to here in a little bit. He might be able to date Taylor Swift," Martindale said on Tuesday.

Obviously, Wink wasn't serious about the dating Taylor Swift comment. However, it shows what kind of a star he believes Loveland can be at the next level, since he compared him to Kelce, the best tight end in the league for years, in a roundabout way.

Loveland, a 6-foot-5, 245-pounder from Gooding, Idaho hauled in eight receptions for 87 yards and a touchdown against Fresno State, as well as eight for 70 in the loss to Texas.

The Michigan football junior had three receptions for 30 yards against Arkansas State before he was injured and with a passing game struggling, it would be great to have the best tight end in college football back in the lineup.
