Injury updates for Michigan football stars Will Johnson and Colston Loveland

Michigan football was able to get its biggest win of the season over USC on Saturday without the presence of one of its best offensive players -- tight end Colston Loveland.

The projected first-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft, may not have been as involved with the offense because of Alex Orji playing quarterback. Then again, if Orji has someone who can consistently get open, it might make him look better as a quarterback.

At any rate, Loveland didn't play. However, Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore said on Monday that he was "close."

“Doing a lot better,” Moore said at his Monday press conference. “Doctors felt that it would be in the best interest that he not [play]. So we’re in a positive patch right now, so we’ll see.”

Moore said that Loveland was "trending in the right direction" so hopefully, we'll see the impactful tight end when Michigan football hosts Minnesota on Saturday.

More good injury news for Michigan football, Will Johnson

Another injury concern for Michigan football fans had to do with Will Johnson. Following the third interception returned for a touchdown in his career -- a Michigan record -- Johnson left the USC game with an injury.

We don't know what it was, but Sherrone Moore said on Saturday that Johnson could have gone back into the game if needed.

“Obviously sore, but nothing structurally done, and he’s in a good place,” Moore said of Johnson. “He’ll be ready to go.”

That's great news for Michigan football and if Loveland is able to return, that will be even better.
