Michigan football tight end Colston Loveland compared to Travis Kelce
Michigan football took its turn at Big Ten Media Days on Thursday and Sherrone Moore got plenty of attention from the media.
At one point, Moore joked, "You know Jim Harbaugh's not coming back right?" Moore also said one of the biggest differences between being a head coach and an assistant, are all the pictures you have to take.
The Michigan football head coach covered plenty of on-field topics though. We'll be covering some of those in the next few days but in his breakout session with the media, Moore was asked about tight end Colston Loveland, a Big Ten Preseason honoree and projected first-round pick.
"Ever heard of Travis Kelce? That's what you're looking at. It's going to be awesome to watch him," Moore said via Alejandro Zuniga of The Michigan Insider.
Colston Loveland is going to be a problem in 2024
The 6-foot-5, 245-pound tight end from Gooding, Idaho was a First-Team All-Big Ten selection last season and is poised to be the No. 1 passing target of the Michigan football offense. Loveland hauled in 45 passes for 649 yards with four touchdowns last season in addition to 16 receptions for 235 yards and two touchdowns in 2022.
Ever since the Ohio State game in 2022, Loveland has been elite. I was saying back then he would be a first-round pick. Even with a new starting quarterback, you'd expect a leap in production from Loveland, who is nearly impossible to cover one-on-one.
Corners aren't big enough. Safeties and linebackers are too slow. Loveland also does work in the run game and he might be the most complete tight end to enter the NFL draft in years next spring.
So yes, Travis Kelce is an apt comparison. Loveland should be an All-American for Michigan football in 2024 and when he gets to the NFL, he'll be a force, just like Kelce.
