New Michigan basketball job wasn't created for John Beilein

There has been talk about former Michigan basketball head coach John Beilein returning to the Wolverines but it won't be as a special assistant.

There was a new job posting circulating on social media this week as Dusty May, the new Michigan basketball head coach, had a position posted titled "special assistant to the head coach."

It's a job with a lot of basketball and admin duties. It seems like it will be an important position, but some Michigan basketball fans started talking about John Beilein taking the job or the position being created specifically for Beilein.

I thought it was curious because the greatest Michigan basketball head coach of all time shouldn't be a special assistant to anyone.

It makes sense to have Beilein in some sort of role but it's not one that even needs to be official. The Wolverines legend already said that anytime Dusty May needs help, Coach Beilein will be there to help him.

However, it still had some Michigan basketball fans hoping that Beilein would be coming back. And maybe he will be in some capacity but I don't expect that to be as an assistant coach and according to Josh Henschke of Rivals, Beilein "probably" won't be the special assistant to the head coach.

To be honest, that's a good thing. Beilein deserves better than that and that job title makes the job seem like it's ideal for a younger coach, looking to advance in the business. It involves editing recruiting highlights and doing things Beilein wouldn't do and I mean come on, can anyone really see Beilein helping a recruiting edit?

It's just funny how these things get legs. Beilein could help Michigan basketball in the future. He already did by helping the Wolverines land Dusty May but he won't be the special assistant to the head coach, although I have a feeling we'll find out who that is before too long.
