Michigan football with even more momentum to land elite safety in 2025
Michigan football is starting to build some momentum on the recruiting trail and following the commitment of four-star Jaylen Williams earlier this week, the Wolverines are trending to land another four-star commitment in the 2025 class.
Kainoa Winston is the recruit we are talking about. He's a 5-foot-10, 184-pound safety ranked in the top 100 according to the 247 Sports composite rankings (88th overall) and the On3 Industry rankings which have him ranked 95th overall.
Winston is out of Washington, D.C. He visited Michigan football two weeks ago and last week, he visited Penn State. That seemed to be the team that most experts pegged as the biggest threat to the Wolverines, who knocked it out of the park when they hosted Winston for his official visit.
Coming out of the Penn State visit, Michigan football clearly has all the momentum still. EJ Holland of The Wolverine put in an expert projection for the Wolverines to land Winston's commitment. He was joined by Josh Henschke of the Maize and Blue Review.
Those team insider picks are important. Those guys generally have good intel, but the national reporters are important too. They have less of the bias. There isn't a more respected recruiting analyst than Steve Wiltfong, who now works for On3.
On Wednesday, Wiltfong joined some of the other Michigan recruiting experts by projecting Winston to the Wolverines. That gives Michigan football an 89-percent chance of winning his commitment according to the On3 prediction machine.
Oregon and North Carolina also made Winston's top four. He will visit Oregon this weekend and North Carolina next. Both of those programs don't shy away from pay-for-play (NIL) and we'll see if that impacts things, but after a Fong Bomb, it's easy to feel good about where Michigan stands.
