It's not a big secret that Michigan football has struggled to land top-100 recruits. The Wolverines didn't get any in the 2023 class, and had just one sign with U-M in 2024.

Rankings aren't everything but you still need elite talent. Michigan football does have a top-100 commitment in the 2025 class from Nate Marshall, but after a recent visit to Auburn, that's now up in the air.

Michigan is heavily involved with a top-100 defensive back though, Kainoa Winston from Washington, D.C. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound safety is ranked 88th overall in the 2025 class and ninth at his position according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Winston took an official visit to Michigan football recently. He was at Penn State last weekend after recently cutting his list of teams down to three. Penn State and Michigan felt like the clear favorites and after his visit to Happy Valley, Winston has started trending to U-M.

EJ Holland of The Wolverine put in an expert projection for Winston to land with Michigan. That now gives the Wolverines an 80-percent chance to get Winston's commitment according to the On3 prediction machine.

Josh Henschke, from the Maize and Blue Review, also put in an expert projection in the form of a futurecast for Winston to join Michigan football.

It would be welcome news for the Wolverines and frankly, it would be another huge recruiting win for Sherrone Moore. Jaylen Williams was a solid get, but adding Winston and beating Penn State to do it, would be a nice feather in the cap of Moore and Michigan football.
