Michigan football is finally gaining some much needed momentum in recruiting. Despite winning the national championship, the Wolverines currently sit at 46th in the nation in terms of recruiting. That seems poised to change, as the Wolverines are trending for a handful of elite targets.

Pennsylvania has been good to the Wolverines

Michigan football has seen success in Pennsylvania in recent years. The 2025 class, however, features a pair of talented targets that U-M is trending for.

First, there is top 100 tight end Andrew Olesh. This one appears to be a Michigan vs Penn State battle. While the Nittany Lions currently hold the lead according to ON3, Michigan has been building up momentum here. It's no secret that the Wolverines have seen more success than the Nittany Lions on the field, and the tight end position is always great at Michigan.

Michigan and Penn State are also pretty equal in terms of NIL; neither team has participated much in terms of paying recruits. The Michigan brand, however, is undoubtedly larger than Penn States, so Michigan may actually have a recruiting edge in terms of NIL.

Most importantly, in my opinion, is that Michigan football will be Olesh's final official visit. He just visited Alabama, will visit Florida next week, then Penn State on 6/14, and finally Michigan on the 21st. June 21st also happens to be Michigan's Victors Weekend, its largest recruiting event of the Summer. Commits as well as many top targets will be on campus, and it should be great for the Wolverines.

Olesh could end his recruitment at any point, really. Most kids commit shortly after taking all of their official visits, meaning Michigan will be high on his mind. Landing an elite tight end like Olesh would be huge for the 2025 class, and would give Michigan tons of momentum on the trail.

Four star DL Maxwell Roy

Next on this list is a new name in Maxwell Roy. Roy has kept his recruitment very quiet. Up until this week, Ohio State was the perceived favorite in his recruitment. However, that is no longer the case. Michigan appears to be in the drivers seat now for the talented defensive lineman.

Roy was scheduled to be at Ohio State this weekend, but it's unknown if he'll make it or not. Roy has also scheduled an official visit to Michigan for June 21st. According to ON3, Michigan has a very commanding lead at this point, and the Wolverines even picked up a predicition from EJ Holland to land Roy.

Lou Esposito, Michigan's new defensive line coach, has done a tremendous job on the recruiting trail and has arguably been Michigan's best recruiter thus far. Michigan is poised to have a tremdendous defensive line class in 2025 due to Esposito.

Roy's recruitment is definitely one to watch. If he doesn't make it to Ohio State this weekend, that could signal an imminent Michigan football commitment. Keep an eye out for that.

Another thing to note is that bringing both Pennsylvania natives in for an official visit on the 21st could be beneficial, especially if Roy is committed by then. While the distance between Ann Arbor and Pennsylvania isn't too great, distance is almost never easy. The two conversing with each other could help to mitigate any potential issues or concerns.

As a whole, things are trending up for Michigan football recruiting. Let's just hope the staff can close on some of these elite prospects. If so, things could get back on track quickly. Go Blue.
