We are reaching the tail end of the 2025 recruiting class. Most top recruits in the 2025 class are already committed, and of those who aren't, many will be making their decisions in the coming weeks. With that, the focus is slowly shifting towards the 2026 class. Last weekend, Michigan football held their BBQ at the Big House, which was attended by a ton of elite 2026 prospects.

Among those were two top 100 running back recruits, Savion Hiter (VA) and Javian Osborne (TX). And all indications are that Michigan football knocked it out of the park with both. New running backs coach Tony Alford already had relationships with each from his time at Ohio State, and he has worked tirelessly to grow those relationships.

Michigan football appears to be in the top two for Hiter along with Georgia, and appears near the top for Osborne. Not to mention the Wolverines just picked up an expert prediction from ON3's EJ Holland for top 200 Florida running back Javian Mallory.

Over the past few years, it's been a mystery as to why it seemed like Michigan football couldn't find success recruiting top running backs. Sure, they hit a home run with Jordan Marshall in 2024, but aside from that, despite their on-the-field successes from the running back position, the Wolverines have struggled to compete for top talent.

RB recruiting is trending up for Michigan football

Under Tony Alford and combined with Michigan's improving NIL approach, that appears to be changing. The Wolverines have two four-star (and still underrated, in my opinion) backs committed in the 2025 class, and are making waves with the top running backs in the 2026 class.

Running back is a position that Michigan football should be able to dominate on the recruiting trail. It's so crucial that the Wolverines continue to stack elite talent there if they wish to keep contending for championships.

While the 2025 class still has months until it's concluded, there is plenty of optimism in Ann Arbor about the 2026 class. Keep an eye out for any updates, go blue.
