Michigan Football Recruiting: Can Wolverines Close with Elite TE?
Michigan football is hot on the recruiting trail. Over the past week, the Wolverines have secured commitments from top 100 safety Kainoa Winston and three star running back Jasper Parker in the 2025 class, and also landed elite quarterback Brady Hart in the 2026 class. Michigan will have another chance to add an elite prospect to the mix this weekend, when top 100 tight end Andrew Olesh visits for Victors Weekend.
Olesh, a Pennsylvania native ranked as the #84 player in the nation, is believed to be down to Michigan and Penn State. The general consensus is that Michigan football may hold a slight lead, but the Nittany Lions hosted Olesh last weekend and there could be pressure on Olesh to stay close to home.
With that being said, Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines have done a fantastic job with visiting recruits. Every weekend the staff wows recruits and consistently puts Michigan football into a great position, and I expect this weekend to be no different.
Olesh is expected to announce his commitment in the weeks following his visit to Ann Arbor. July 4th is a rumored commitment date, but it could definitely come earlier if Michigan does a great job here.
Olesh would be a fantastic addition for the Wolverines
Top 100 recruits are always tough to get. Over the past two recruiting cycles, Michigan has landed just one top 100 recruit. Over the past week, they've added two (one in 2025, one in 2026). At a position that plays such a large role in Michigan's offense, landing an elite prospect like Olesh would be huge.
Standing at 6'5, Olesh would be a top target in Michigan's offense and would have the opportunity to compete for early playing time. Michigan football has a lot to sell with Olesh and can easily point at the success of Colston Loveland as an example.
I'd expect the staff to put in their all to get Olesh on board this weekend. Michigan needs to wow both him and his family to mitigate the pressures of playing close to home. The Wolverines typically do a fantastic job with families, and this weekend will have to be the same.
An important note here is that 2025 QB commit Carter Smith is going to be on campus as well. That will give Olesh time to build a deeper relationship with his potential future quarterback, which could be a huge plus for Michigan. Smith has been very active when it comes to recruiting 2025 players. Smith could have a huge impact this weekend, and that's another thing working in Michigan's favor.
This is definitely one to keep a close eye on this weekend. Olesh is one of a few visiting prospects who should be put on commit watch, and I'd keep an eye out for any updates regarding him. Olesh is one of Michigan's top overall targets in the 2025 class, and they'd love to close with him this weekend. He's a guy who could really help build some momentum with this class, and could help push it into the top 10. Go Blue.
