Michigan football hosted Miami commitment Eljah Melendez this weekend and improved its chances of a flip.

Elijah Melendez is a name that Michigan football fans are becoming familiar with. He's a four-star linebacker committed to Miami but he also took an unofficial visit to Ann Arbor last weekend.

It was the second time that Melendez has visited Michigan football. He was also on campus for the win over Ohio State in November. At 6-foot-2, 225 pounds, the four-star linebacker is ranked No. 138 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He's been committed since December and is out of Kissimmee, Florida.

Hopefully, this weekend was one of a few trips Melendez will take over the next few months because that's what it will take to flip him from Miami. Getting him back for an official visit and even another game next fall would make you feel really good as a Michigan football fan.

Michigan football is gaining ground with Elijah Melendez

There's no doubt the Wolverines knocked this visit out of the park though. According to a report from Sam Webb of the Michigan Insider, Wink Martindale connected with Melendez. He even gave him a nickname. Webb also wrote, "The threat Michigan poses to Miami is bigger after this visit."

You'll have to read the whole article to get the rundown on the visit. But Michigan football definitely made progress with Melendez. I wouldn't expect any crystal ball projections for a flip anytime soon, but if Michigan can get Melendez back on campus this summer for an official visit or the BBQ, then the Wolverines will have a real chance of making this potential flip a reality.
