When it comes to the 2025 Michigan football recruiting class, there aren't many targets who sit higher on the board than Andrew Olesh.

The four-star tight end from Pennsylvania who is ranked 130th overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, as well as the No. 5 tight end, was expected to announce a commitment on Monday. Yet, according to Brian Dohn of 247 Sports, the commitment announcement won't come until July 8th.

It's hard to know why a decision could be delayed. Michigan football has been battling Alabama for Olesh and those are clearly the top two teams at this point. Alabama started making a stronger push after the official visit to Michigan and all of the expert projections/crystal balls that followed for U-M.

The Wolverines have a lot to sell at the tight end position. Michigan has had a player drafted at tight end in the past two drafts and Colston Loveland is going to be a first-round pick this season. The Wolverines have done a great job at that position and Steve Casula should be able to keep that going.

So it will be interesting to see how this one plays out. There haven't been any signs that Alabama has taken the lead but now that the commitment date is July 8th, the Crimson Tide have another week to turn things around.

That's worrisome. We have seen some other recruitments flip around late such as Maxwell Roy is who now expected to commit to Ohio State Monday. U-M was also trending with Hardy Watts and now has committed to Wisconsin.

Hopefully that doesn't happen with Olesh too but it will be interesting to see if Michigan can hang onto the momentum it built after the official visit.
