2024 12-team College Football Playoff rankings prediction after Week 4
Even though there are plenty of big games left on the schedule, it was hard to see Michigan football making the College Football Playoff without a win over USC.
The Wolverines would have likely needed to beat Oregon and Ohio State, which seems like it's asking a lot. However, they bolstered their resume by beating 11th-ranked USC. It wasn't pretty. Sometimes, the offense of Michigan football reminded one of the 1970s, but a win is a win.
Now, the Wolverines have a chance to find their bearings. They host Minnesota this week before traveling to Seattle for a rematch of the national championship game. If Michigan football can win those games, it will be 5-1 at the break and right where it needs to be.
Most projections have Michigan football in the 12-team College Football Playoff. Michigan moved up from 19th to 12th in the AP poll, so they have essentially made up the ground they lost by losing to Texas in the second game of the season.
Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Oregon, Ole Miss, Penn State, Utah, BYU, and Miami are some of the undefated teams in the four major conference, but I still believe the Big 12 and ACC will be one-bid leagues.
We'll see how the season shakes out, but if Michigan football finished 10-2 , the Wolverines would make the playoff. Nine wins might be enough, depending how things go, but it's safe to say the Wolverines are still in playoff contention and just need to avoid a loss in the next four games to stay there until November.

12-team College Football Projection reasoning
Michigan is just outside looking in right now, but they are the first team along with Louisville and LSU. Some of these SEC teams will start beating up on each other though. I'm also not a huge believer in Penn State but the schedule is favorable.
The important thing is that Michigan put itself back in position with a win. Otherwise, the Wolverines wouldn't even be ranked in the top 25.
