One day after Michigan football suffered a lopsided defeat at the hands of the USC Trojans, 31-13, the Wolverines were voted out of the AP and Coaches Polls.

Michigan football was ranked 15th in each poll coming into the week. Yet, after a thorough loss at the hands of USC, the Wolverines are outside the AP and Coaches Poll for the first time this season. It's justified but still wildly disappointing.

Nebraska jumped into the AP Top 25. Washington, the opponent for this week, is just outside the AP Top 25 just like Michigan football.

James Franklin fired

Speaking of demoralizing defeats, it would have been hard to predict three weeks ago that James Franklin would be fired at this point. The Nittany Lions just lost an overtime game to Oregon and seemed headed back to the College Fooball Playoff.

Yet, the preseason No. 2 in the AP Poll followed up the loss to Oregon with defeats against UCLA and Northwestern, which forced Penn State's hand to fire James Franklin, which it did Sunday.

His final game against Michigan, his last three, were defeats. The last two came in top-10 matchups. Famously, in the 2023 game, Sherrone Moore called 32 straight run plays for Michigan football.

Matt Rhule and Curt Cignetti are names to watch, according to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic.

Michigan Wolverines hockey with a top-10 sweep

After a win over seventh-ranked Providence on Friday, the Wolverines notched another important win over the Friars on the road Saturday.

Josh Eernisse scored twice for Michigan hockey as the ninth-ranked Wolverines improved to 4-0 on the season. Malcolm Spence also added a goal to make the final margin 3-1. Freshman goaltender and NHL draft pick Jack Ivankovic turned away 24 of 25 shot attempts in the win.
