There were some positive developments over the weekend for fans of the Michigan Wolverines.
The first one is that the Michigan football team found a way to beat Penn State. It wasn't pretty, especially in the first half. The score was 3-0. It was like watching paint dry.
Bryce Underwood completed 5 of 11 passes for 43 yards. The former five-star recruit threw two interceptions, and after the second one, which was his fault, Michigan football head coach Kyle Whittingham had no choice.
Whittingham went to Carr, who provided a spark. The Wolverines also started calling some of the run plays that worked last season, like the split-zone stretch, which led to Bryson Kuzdal's touchdown run. All of the explosive run plays against Penn State came with the Rhino off the field.
Maybe Jason Beck has finally figured it out. It's weird, though, that some of those changes didn't come until the second half. It was like Beck wanted to try his stuff one more time before being positive it didn't work, as it didn't for five games.
Regardless, Michigan ran for 175 yards in the second half. Tommy Carr didn't turn the ball over, made the defense respect the pass, and ran for 36 yards and a touchdown.
Penn State blitzed Carr, who found Hogan Hansen for a 22-yard completion. That was a sign that you have to play normal defense against Michigan, instead of having nine guys in the box.
Kyle Whittingham said he wasn't ready after the game to name a starter. It would be stunning if it wasn't Tommy Carr. Bryce Underwood could still have a role as a runner, especially since Carr is only 195 pounds, but we'll hear from Whittingham Monday morning.
Michigan hockey makes a statement with a No. 1 vs No. 2 series sweep
It wasn't on national TV and was ignored by the national media, but there was a No. 1 vs No. 2 college hockey series over the weekend as Denver, the defending national champions and the No. 1 team, hosted second-ranked Michigan.
Jayden Perron, who leads college hockey in points, scored his eighth goal of the season to put the Wolverines up 1-0 in the first period on Friday night. Jack Invankovic became the 27th Michigan hockey goalie to record 1,000 saves after he stopped 27 of 28 shots on Friday.
Malcolm Spence added a goal in the second period, before scoring another in the third. Cole McKinney also found the back of the net in the final period as Michigan hockey won 4-1.
On Saturday, the Wolverines finished off the sweep, This game was tied 3-3 in the third when Asher Barnett scored with just under five minutes left to give the Wolverines the lead. Ivankovic record 33 saves. Perron scored another goal in the win. Garrett Schifsky opened the scoring for Michigan, after it fell behind 1-0, Adam Valentini then put the Wolverines ahead 2-1. Perron's goal made it 3-1 before the Pioneers rallied to tie the game.
Michigan is 6-0 for the second consecutive season, and the Wolverines will assume the No. 1 ranking in college hockey after outscoring the previous No. 1 team 8-4 over two games.

Can McCarthy keep New York atop the NFC East and lead the Giants to the playoffs?pic.twitter.com/TpBg93hRaz https://t.co/6Zdd4uJoOz
The former Michigan football quarterback that people like to call a "handoff merchant" threw 243 yards coming off the bench in relief for the Giants against the Saints. According to Polymarket, it was the most yards thrown by an NFL quarterback in 11 minutes in league history.
🚨HISTORY: JJ McCarthy came into the game with 11 minutes left and the Giants down 34-10. He cut the lead to 34-27 and nearly tied the game.

He threw for 243 yards. The MOST in an 11 minute span in NFL HISTORY. WOW pic.twitter.com/EJ9tv5ZuIV
New York was down 34-10. McCarthy got them back to 34-27 and had the ball within scoring range on the final drive before the Giants were stopped on downs.
Maybe, McCarthy should be considered as the starting quarterback moving forward for the Giants, who are still in first place in the NFC East.
