Michigan will get a chance to avenge its Frozen Four loss against Denver as the two teams will meet in Denver in No. 1 vs No. 2 matchup in college hockey.
The Wolverines have started the season 4-0. Denver is 3-0. This will be the first regular-season meeting between the two programs since 1981.
Michigan and Denver are the two winningest programs in the history of college hockey, at least in terms of national championships. Michigan used to lead that category with nine. However, the Pioneers have won three of the last five titles, which included knocking Michigan out in the Frozen Four last season to reach 11.
The Wolverines have reached the Frozen Four in four of the last five seasons. They haven't been able to win the national championship, though. Denver has been a huge reason why. There is hope that Michigan can breakthrough this season, in part because of the major addition of Landon Dupont.
DuPont is a 6-foot, 190-pound right-shot defenseman who totaled 73 points last season in the WHL. He's projected to be No. 1 pick in the 2027 NHL draft.
The two-game series will be played in Denver. The first puck will drop at 6 p.m. tonight, followed by 7 p.m. on Saturday night. Both games can be streamed on NCHC.tv.
Michigan has the best offense in college hockey through four games, with a nation-leading 28 goals. Jayden Perron is leading the nation in points, too with six goals and seven assists through four games.
Michigan has as much talent an any team in the country. This kind of matchup is exactly what the Wolverines need to get more battle-tested for the NCAA tournament, although it's mind-boggling that it's not on national television.
Michigan vs Penn State injury report (Thursday update)
Nothing really changed for the Michigan Wolverines from Wednesday to Thursday on the Penn State injury report. Andrew Sprague has been ruled out. Jake Guarnera came to his defense, though and made sure people know Sprague didn't quit on the team.
Andrew Babalola, Guarnera, and Brady Norton are listed as questionable, along with John Henry Daley and Dom Nichols, the Wolverines best pass rushers. It's not ideal to have 3/5 of the projected starting offensive line on the injury report, especially after a bye week.
Michigan has been banged up on the offensive line since training camp, which is one reason the running game has struggled to get going, although Jason Beck is still the biggest problem. He's the biggest problem with the offense and the entire program.
Mike Boynton's first commitment is really good one
Mike Boynton, the Michigan basketball head coach, has always been known as an elite recruiter. Earlier this week, on Wednesday, he landed his first high school commitment as Wolverines head coach with the pledge of Lucai Anderson.
The 6-foot-5 guard ranked No. 85 overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings for the 2027, is the younger brother of Christian Anderson, a former Michigan commitment, who went to Texas Tech and was just selected as a first-round pick in the NBA draft this summer.
Anderson took an official visit at the end of September. He's a high-volume shooter who can play with the ball in his hands. His 3-point shot will probably determine how successful he is.
It's a quality get, though, and a guy who has the potential to be a contributor for multiple seasons before potentially developing into an NBA draft prospect.
