The school year is about to begin, which means fall sports are in full swing. While football is at the forefront of everyone's minds, there are also volleyball and soccer, and other sports to watch out for. Right now, Michigan fall camp has officially begun, which means the season is just around the corner, and here is some news to keep an eye on.
Bryce Underwood and Jordan Marshall named to Maxwell Award watch list
With the season on the brink of starting, preseason award watch lists have rolled out, one of the biggest being the Maxwell Award watch list. This award is given to the best all-around player in college football, and this season, not just one, but two Wolverines made the cut. Quarterback Bryce Underwood and running back Jordan Marshall were named to the prestigious award watch list.
Michigan has not had a Maxwell Award winner since Desmond Howard won it back in 1991. To have two players on the watch list obviously gives Michigan double the chance to win, but also shows the level of talent Underwood and Marshall possess.
Both Underwood and Marshall are entering their sophomore seasons, but both are projected to have big ones, taking the leap from year one to year two. This next step is to make the midseason watch list.
Michigan began fall camp on Tuesday with position battles in full swing
Fall camp for Michigan began Tuesday, August 4, just a month before the first game for the Wolverines. Players reported to camp on Tuesday, with full-team practices scheduled to start on Wednesday.
This is the time for the Wolverines to really work out those little things before the season begins and also settle any position battles brewing. The main position battles to keep an eye on are the linebackers, the defensive line, the backup quarterback position, and the left tackle position.

Even though the college basketball season is still a few months away, new Michigan head coach Mike Boynton is still finalizing his roster and staff. Boynton was able to retain all but one player from the roster that Dusty May built, and now he is picking his coaching staff.
Boynton was able to keep some key guys around, like Kyle Church, but he is rounding out his staff, with the latest addition being Dylan Murphy. The former G League head coach for the Osceola Magic brings a wealth of experience, spending eight years within the Orlando Magic organization.
There is still work to do for Boynton when it comes to his staff and getting this team ready to defend its title this upcoming season. However, after everything that went down with May's exit, Boynton has really impressed with his ability to keep this team together.
