Over the next month, Michigan football has a painstaking task to get prepared for the 2026 season. August practices are so essential because they can lead to December and January championships. Every little detail is critical in today's cutthroat environment. That's why they can leave no stone unturned in pursuit of the ultimate glory.

3 things to get out of camp

1. Find some reliable, starting linebackers

Whether it's through the portal or on the current roster, Michigan football has to locate at least two linebackers who can start. Troy Bowles, Chase Taylor, and Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng are being discussed as the first-teamers, along with Nathaniel Staehling from North Dakota State. Staehling has the most production out of the bunch. During fall camp, the Wolverines can afford to tinker with some position changes as an option, or line up defensive backs in the front seven is another route to plan for. As difficult as it may be, finding about six quality linebackers who can play is vital.

2. Grill Bryce Underwood daily

Do whatever it takes to get Underwood ready for the rigorous schedule that lies in front of him. Blitz him constantly, quiz him relentlessly, make him uncomfortable to the point where he has never worked harder in his life. Most importantly, though, don't let him get touched by anyone until September 5th. So that when the time comes, he'll flip the switch and transform into the player he was destined to be.

3. Stay healthy at all costs

Michigan football can't afford any significant losses like it had last year to Andrew Babalola. Injuries will happen, but make sure that the club is at full health for the Oklahoma affair. Players like offensive linemen, Underwood, John Henry Daley, and defensive backs are too important to risk losing for long periods of time. Unfortunately, those things are out of its hands, so always proceed with caution.
