It's time for preseason predictions as the college football season draws closer. In the Big Ten, Michigan football is one of the harder teams to predict.
We just don't know how good Bryce Underwood will be. There are questions about the offensive line and wide receivers, too.
However, Athlon predicts that Michigan football will finish fourth this season in the Big Ten. Penn State is expected to win the conference, according to Athlon, which I have a hard time believing until I see it, while Ohio State and Oregon are right behind.
Indiana is projected fifth, followed by Illinois, Iowa, and Nebraska. Of the top teams eight in the Athlon preseason rankings, the Michigan Wolverines are only projected to face Ohio State and Nebraska.
A commitment coming for Michigan football
Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore teased a commitment on Sunday with a post on social media. Lou Esposito and some other coaches connected to the defensive line were posting positive things, too, so it seems like U-M has landed at least one player on the defensive line.
Based on last weekend's visitors, which includes On3 five-star recruit Carter Meadows, a 6-foot-6 EDGE, as well as three other blue-chip defensive linemen, a highly-ranked player has committed.
Victors Weekend, which included 20 official visitors, feels like a huge success. The Wolverines likely have one commitment already from that group. There could be more.
One name to watch is Calvin Russell, a top-50 recruit (247 Sports 5-star) who has a commitment date set for July 5th. His visit seemed to go really well and Ethan McDowell of On3.com says Michigan football shouldn't be discounted, as he says there is "positive buzz" about the Wolverines.
Michigan basketball ranked in top 10 by On3
The Michigan Wolverines have a loaded roster in men's basketball. Dusty May has built a team capable of contending for the national championship and with most college basketball rosters set at this point, On3.com has Michigan ranked ninth going into the 2025-26 season.
Purdue is ranked No. 1. The Boilermakers are the only Big Ten team ranked ahead of the Wolverines.
