Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham has been very busy since the calendar changed from May to June. Honestly, even before then, the new Michigan head coach found himself working tirelessly on the recruiting trail, bringing in 12 commits in May, but only one so far in June.
That doesn't mean Whittingham hasn't been busy in June, hosting a host of recruits each weekend, and also still handing out offers. His latest offer was given to four-star 2027 linebacker Frederrick Ford, who is currently an SEC magnet with his other offers and official visits.

Michigan could quickly become a contender for 4-star linebacker Frederrick Ford
Michigan entered the race later for Ford, handing him an offer on June 4, but the Wolverines could easily become a team to be wary of. Ford currently has five official visits set with Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Florida State, Tennessee, and LSU. He has already made his trips to both Mississippi schools and Florida State, and is set to travel to Tennessee and LSU in the upcoming weekends.
That doesn't mean an official visit won't come for Michigan, as there is still time for Ford to set one. Michigan is currently the only Big Ten team after Ford in what seems like a crowded SEC race, but Whittingham has beaten out bigger schools for recruits.
"Michigan is the type of program that is automatically amongst the top choices once they enter the conversation as a viable option," Ford said about the offer.
It makes sense for the Mississippi native to show loads of interest in both Mississippi State and Ole Miss, but it doesn't mean Whititngham can't find success here. Michigan has already landed a commitment from a Mississippi native, four-star running back Tyson Robinson, who also had interest from both in-state schools.
Michigan has the name and the resources to become a contender in this race, even with a late offer compared to these other schools. If Whittingham could land Ford, even with a late entry to the recruiting race, it would be his eighth commitment from a four-star recruit, according to 247Sports. That would almost certainly move Michigan up from its No. 16 ranking in the 247Sports recruiting rankings.
Up against some SEC heavyweight coaches like Lane Kiffin and Josh Heupel, Whittingham has a real shot at landing the No. 21 linebacker in the Class of 2027. This is a position that would be good for Whittingham to give some love to, as it is one of the weakest positions right now for Michigan's stacked defense.
Be on the lookout to see if Whittingham can land an official visit from Ford. Unless he cancels the one to LSU, it wouldn't come during Victor Weekend, Michigan's biggest official visit weekend of the summer.
