Michigan football fans knew that a commitment was coming after Sherrone Moore teased another on Wednesday night.
On Thursday, that prediction paid off as three-star tight end Mason Bonner committed to the Michigan Wolverines just two days after the commitment of four-star tight end Matt Ludwig.
Ludwig might be one of the top-ranked tight ends in the class, and often draws comparison to Colston Loveland, but don't sleep on Bonner, the 6-foot-6, 200-pound tight end out of Colorado who has a background as a wide receiver.
Michigan satisfies a need with another tight end
Bonner is more of a sleeper in the 2026 class, at least according to the rankings. He's 34th among tight ends in the 247 Sports composite rankings, and fourth among players in Colorado.
Still, Tennessee offered Bonner this month. UCLA did too. Texas Tech and Minnesota were also expected to get official visits. Steve Casula, the new co-offensive coordinator paid Bonner a vist this week, just like Ludwig and was able to close a commitment.
After missing on some key targets at the position in the 2025 class, with a late flip to Penn State from Andrew Olesh, the Wolverines needed to knock it out of the park at the position in the 2026 class.
Ludwig is ranked in the top 100 overall according to the On3 rankings for 2026. Bonner isn't rated as high but he's got major upside. He's only 200 pounds, so he'll need to fill out and is more of a developmental prospect.
The Wolverines have six commitments total now. They should be set at tight end, but it's good to see Casula hit the road and close out two commitments this week.
Michigan is right there with some elite prospects in the 2026 class, and if the Wolverines can close the way they have this week, another top-10 class should be in order.
