After things got a little stagnant on the recruiting trail, Michigan football landed a massive commitment from four-star tight end Matt Ludwig on Tuesday.

Michigan coaches were restricted from going on the road for a couple of weeks, but as soon as the was lifted, tight ends coach Steve Casula made the trip to Montana, which was enough to tip the scale in the favor of the Wolverines.

This commitment wasn't expected. Michigan football was the leader according to On3 and the crystal ball projections, but Ludwig had official visits scheduled for Georgia, Notre Dame, and Texas Tech. Tennessee and Texas A&M were in the mix too.

Ludwig said he wants to be a "Michigan Man" in an interview with 406 MT Sports.

"It feels awesome," he said. "It's great to get is done and I'm happy to be a Michigan man."

The 6-foot-4, 250-pound tight end is ranked No. 175 overall according to the On3 Industry rankings and is 10th among tight ends.

The fact that it came out of nowhere and that Ludwig is a natural comparison for Colston Loveland are all reasons why Michigan football fans should be excited.

Here are a few more.

Why Michigan football fans should absolutely love Matt Ludwig's commitment

Ludwig said that once he commits to a school, his recruitment will be shut down, so don't expect any talk about a flip when it comes to the blue-chip tight end from Montana.

He's a tight end who has rushed for over 100 yards in a game and averaged six yards per attempt for his career as a wildcat quarterback. That's not normal. Neither is running an 11.12 in the 100-meter dash at 250 pounds. Loveland ran it in 12.54 as a junior in high school.

With Texas Tech being in the mix, you know a bag was out there. The Red Raiders are overpaying for everyone, so the fact that Ludwig committed to Michigan football, in part because of the effort the coaches showed, is a great sign.

Not only is Ludwig an elite talent, he's a Michigan man through and through.
