Michigan's 'full-court press' has it trending up for elite in-state recruit

Michigan football has been making progress with elite 2027 recruit Dakota Guerrant, one of the top in-state recruits for the Wolverines.

When Michigan football hired Kyle Whittingham as the head coach, recruiting was one of the big question marks.

In terms of the 2027 recruiting class, one of the recruits who felt like would be one of the most difficult to land, at least among the in-state prospects, was elite wideout Dakota Guerrant.

With some of the others in the mix, such as Ohio State, Alabama, Texas A&M, and Oregon, among many others, there are some heavy hitters involved in this recruitment. Yet, Michigan shouldn't be counted out.

The Wolverines have started putting on a "full-court press" via Ethan McDowell, and it appears to be paying off with Guerrant, who is ranked 34th overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder out of Harper Woods is No. 1 in the state of Michigan in the 2027 class. McDowell also wrote that Michigan football is building a great relationship with him, led by Micah Simon.

Guerrant caught 55 passes for 1,074 yards and 26 touchdowns last season. He's someone who could be expected to contribute right away. Here's a portion of scouting report from 247:

"Bonafide playmaker that can emerge as a go-to receiver on Saturdays and then possibly Sundays," Andrew Ivins of 247 Sports wrote. "Cashes checks in 50-50 situations with outstanding ball skills as he fights for positioning and climbs the ladder for easy wins."

The news broke on Thursday that Guerrant will be taking an official visit to Ann Arbor this summer. Beyond that, he took a surprise visit on Thursday, another big positive for the Wolverines.

Oregon is the main contender, just getting a recent expert projection. The Ducks have Guerrant on the schedule for the official visit this summer. He has taken six visits there total, but there is no question, Michigan is trending up, and becoming a real factor in this recruitment.
