It took a minute for Michigan football to start landing commitments under Kyle Whittingham in the 2027 class, but the Wolverines are on a roll now.

One day after landing a ball-hawking safety in the 2027 class, which was the first true high school recruiting victory for Whittingham as the Michigan football head coach, the Wolverines reeled in another safety known for taking the ball away, landing the commitment of three-star Maxwell Miles.

Miles is 6-foot-2, just like Darrell Mattison, a four-star (via 247 Sports), who committed to Michigan on Tuesday. Miles was projected to land with the Wolverines on Monday, according to the 247 Sports crystal ball. He visited Ann Arbor recently, and was offered by the new coaching staff.

Despite having official visits locked in over the summer with UNLV and Minnesota, plus strong interest from Vanderbilt, Miles shut down his recruitment on Wednesday. That gives Michigan football two commitments in two days with a combined 11 interceptions as juniors last fall.

Mattison had five interceptions last season. Miles is ranked No. 735 overall out of Las Vegas, Nevada. He's listed at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds. His ranking is via the 247 Sports composite rankings.

On top of the six interceptions, Miles was constantly around the ball, getting credited with 77 tackles, 10 pass breakups, six tackles for loss, and a fumble recovery in 2025.

Miles has 17 offers total, and one of those was from Boise State. That happened soon after Tyler Stockon left, but you can bet he was familiar with Miles. The Wolverines got him on campus for a spring visit, and that was that.

Michigan has five commitments in the 2027 class total. Two of them are ranked as four-star prospects. The class is ranked 20th overall by 247 Sports.
