Michigan football feels is in the midst of one of its best recruiting stretches in years. The Wolverines landed their fourth blue-chip commitment on Wednesday since June 9th.
That's the seventh commitment overall if you count a three-star kicker and a long snapper, rated as a five-star among long snappers. Even on special teams, Michigan is getting it done. The Wolverines also have a top-100 quarterback in the 2026 class, and what feels like a bunch more blue chips.
The 2026 class has 14 commitments. Eight of them are blue-chip prospects but Donovan Webb and Dorian Barney, four-star defensive backs, have also been trending in Michigan's direction, along with three-star linebacker/athlete Markdel Dabney.
Yet, three more 2026 recruits have been projected to Michigan on Wednesday alone. Calvin Russell, the five-star wide receiver (via 247 Sports) has been projected to Michigan by Aiden Sen of Rivals.
Malakai Lee just got an expert projection from Steve Wiltfong of On3, and after trending with projections for Marky Walbridge, the three-star offensive tackle announced his commitment, giving the Wolverines two pledges in one day, and three this week.
What Michigan football is getting in offensive tackle Marky Walbridge
Michigan has been in the mix for a slew of 2026 offensive tackles. Felix Ojo is down to Texas and Ohio State. John Turntine was just on campus. Michigan made a positive move there, but it feels like the Wolverines will end with Walbridge and also Malakai Lee.
Lee is 6-foot-6, 318 pounds, and ranked No. 137 overall in the 2026 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He's also 10th among offensive tackles. Georgia and Texas were in the mix but Michigan is the crystal ball leader now, along with Wiltfong's pick for On3.
Walbridge is 6-foot-6, 280 pounds out of Needham, Massachusetts. He's ranked 447th overall (247 Sports composite), but I love this take. Michigan football beat out Duke, Boston College, Penn State, Florida, Ohio State, Nebraska, Michigan State, Maryland, Tennessee, South Carolina, Rutgers, Syracuse, and 27 programs in total that offered.
Walbridge will need some seasoning, but he'll have time to grow with Michigan. Andrew Babalola figures to win the left tackle job at some point this season, and with Andrew Sprague on the right side, those positions should be set for 2-3 years into the future.
That will afford Walbridge the chance to develop. Lee, too, if Michigan can close out that commitment. Michigan's class has surged into the top 25. With seven commitments total in the past two weeks, this U-M is on fire with no signs of slowing down.
