Michigan football just beat out South Carolina, among others, for the commitment of five-star EDGE Carter Meadows.
And it appears as though the Wolverines are about to beat out South Carolina for another blue-chip EDGE, but this one is a lot closer to home.
Out of Irmo, South Carolina, Julian Walker is a 6-foot-6, 240-pound EDGE, who is ranked as the fourth-best recruit in the state of South Carolina in the 2026 class, as well as being ranked 197th overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Walker is also the son of the South Carolina Gamecocks special teams coach. That would seem to give South Carolina an edge in his recruitment. Most Michigan football fans expected Walker to end up in the SEC, with his dad's program.
Yet, according to some expert projections on Monday, Walker is headed to Michigan. Steve Wiltfong of On3.com projected Walker to the Wolverines, making Michigan the favorite according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.
Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider also logged a crystal ball for Walker to land with the Wolverines. He doesn't have a commitment date; however, Sherrone Moore and defensive line coach Lou Esposito both teased commitments on social media Monday.
Moore did it twice. But the fact that Esposito posted, "Trench Mob Kid," tells you all you need to know. Walker is one of the few targets left on the board for Michigan because the Wolverines have already landed five blue-chip prospects on the D-line.

Walker's dad is on the strength staff at South Carolina
This is getting ridiculous! Michigan has been predicted by Steve Wiltfong to land 4 ⭐ Julian Walker, a Top 150 Overall played from South Carolina.

O Yea, his father is also the S&C coach at South Carolina!! Cram it South!!! https://t.co/bLnrsQROUs
Walker would be another huge addition. It would also be among the most surprising commitments of the past month for the Wolverines simply due to Walker's ties to the South Carolina staff.
It feels like a commitment could come at any time.
