Michigan football's 2027 recruiting class is expected to grow by one on Thursday, at least if the latest expert projections and crystal balls come true for Freddrick Ford.
The four-star linebacker visited Michigan football recently for an official visit. It was his second visit of June, after he also took an unofficial visit to Ann Arbor.
Those trips seem to have cemented the Wolverines as the favorite to land the 6-foot-3, 195-pound linebacker from Greenwood, Mississippi.
Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Tennessee, and Florida State are some of the other schools in the mix for the talented defender, who will announce his commitment live on the 247 Sports YouTube channel on Thursday night at 6:30 PM EST.
The timing of 4-star's decision bodes well for Michigan football
The Wolverines started trending with expert projections for the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine on Wednesday. Ethan McDowell, who covers Michigan football recruiting for Rivals, put in a projection, as did a reporter who covers Ole Miss. That was a very good sign.
On Thursday, after the timing was announced, another 247 Sports insider who covers Ole Miss put in a crystal ball projection for the Wolverines to land the linebacker ranked No. 242 overall via the 247 Sports composite rankings. He's No. 192 in the Top 247.
With all of the expert projections going Michigan's way currently, the Wolverines have a 93 percent chance to add his commitment to the 2027 class on Thursday. If that happens, it would be huge for Kyle Whittingham, as well as his son Alex, the linebackers coach. It would be his first big commitment as the linebackers coach, and landing a four-star from SEC country isn't easy.
Weirdly, Rivals is the only recruiting service that doesn't have Ford as a blue chip. 247 Sports has him ranked No. 192 overall. ESPN has him even higher at No. 140. He's ranked as the 10th and 13th linebacker respectively via 247 and ESPN, while Rivals has him as the 47th.
So there is a disconnect there. Ford will need to add weight, but he's an explosive athlete. 247 Sports has him running a 4.7 in the 40. He is also a two-time state qualifier in the high jump. He excels against the run, but is fluid in coverage, too. He feels like a true three-down linebacker, as long as he can bulk up, which shouldn't be an issue once he gets to Ann Arbor.
