Michigan football has a golden opportunity to land some elite prospects in the 2028 recruiting class and one of those top-tier targets is four-star EDGE Asa Burch.
The 6-foot-5, 225-pound EDGE out of Warren, Ohio, is ranked No. 107 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Burch had four sacks in the 2025 season. He changed positions to EDGE part of the way through his high school career. It's been a great and it caused Burch to move up the rankings.
Michigan football has felt like the favorite in this recruitment for a while. The Wolverines have been projected to land Burch via the 247 Sports crystal ball as well as the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine.
Steve Wiltfong and other recruiting experts for Rivals have projected Burch to Michigan football. The Wolverines have a 95-percent chance, according to Rivals RPM, of landing his commitment.
However, things do seem to be shifting a little. Burch has taken trips to Notre Dame and Ohio State this fall. However, it doesn't seem like another trip to Columbus is in order.
4-star EDGE is down to Michigan and Notre Dame with a decision approaching
According to a new report from Ethan McDowell, Burch could make a decision soon, maybe as early as November. It also feels like the blue-chip defender has narrowed his list to Michigan and Notre Dame.
Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Penn State have all had Burch on campus for three visits. Burch was in South Bend the week before, but is expected back in Ann Arbor this fall after taking multiple trips over the spring and summer.
Alfie Burch, the father of Asa and a Michigan football legacy, reposted McDowell's article and wrote this on X: "The List is getting smaller, and the reasons for a certain school is growing bigger."
Hopefully, that certain school is Michigan. The Wolverines are trending as the favorite to land Major Stokes, another EDGE prospect who is ranked 33rd overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Mataio Fano, a five-star prospect, according to 247 Sports, was also recently projected to land with Michigan football. Both of those recruits are from Utah, where Kyle Whittingham has strong ties after being the Utes head coach for two decades.
Burch is a Michigan legacy, but the Wolverines still have to close. Notre Dame is making that more difficult and it feels like less of a slam dunk than it once did.
