Kyle Whittingham is off to a 3-0 start as the Michigan football head coach. The first game was a little shaky, but Whittingham beat the 11th-ranked team in his second.
It was a solid start, just like Whittingham got off to a solid start on the recruiting trail with the 2027 class. Things aren't officially done in the 2027 class yet, with signing coming in December, but it feels like most programs, Michigan football included, have turned the page to 2028.
That doesn't mean the Wolverines have given up trying to flip Dakota Guerrant, a five-star wide receiver from Michigan in the 2027 class, but turning attention to the 2028 class, Whittingham has a chance to build something special, especially in the trenches.
Four-star offensive tackle Mataio Fano received a crystal ball in favor of the Wolverines earlier this week. That was a huge positive. Another is that four-star EDGE Asa Burch has also been trending to the Wolverines since the summer.
Now, according to a report from Ethan McDowell of The Wolverine.com, a decision could be coming relatively soon as McDowell posted on X that "Elite Michigan legacy EDGE Asa Burch isn't going to prolong his decision-making process."

A Wolverine legacy who is from Warren, Ohio, Burch is ranked No. 104 overall in the 2028 recruiting class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
The 6-foot-5, 225-pounder was dynamic last season with 42 tackles, nine tackles for loss, four sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and two interceptions returned for touchdowns.
Penn State, Ohio State, and Notre Dame have been the three programs most involved, outside of Michigan, but the 247 Sports crystal ball favors the Wolverines, as does the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine, which gives Michigan a 95 percent chance to land Burch's commitment.
Burch isn't the only elite player in the trenches trending to the Wolverines. Major Stokes, an EDGE from Utah, who is ranked 33rd overall in the 2028 class, via the 247 Sports composite rankings, has also been projected to the Wolverines along with Fano.
Michigan is also trending up with 5-star offensive tackle Antijuan Wilkes, a Detroit Cass Tech standout, who will be on campus this weekend for the Iowa game.
The Wolverines need to add some talent at wide receiver in 2028, but a haul of Burch, Stokes, Fano, and Wilkes would be a dream come true for Michigan football fans.
And as we all saw from 2021-2024, the best way to beat the Ohio State Buckeyes, is to build a dominant team in the trenches.
So far, Whittingham is doing exactly that.
