Who will Michigan turn to next? That's the question countless people have on their minds after Sherrone Moore was fired out of nowhere last week with cause. Since then, we've seen plenty of names linked to the opening.

Rece Davis shares his pick for next Michigan coach and it makes a ton of sense

For the majority of fans, Kalen DeBoer and Kenny Dillingham are the coaches at the top of the list. However, both have said they're not interested in the job and they're planning to stay with Alabama and Arizona State, respectively.

So, should the Wolverines settle for Jedd Fisch or Eli Drinkwitz? That's something that's being discussed, but there's another option for who Michigan should have run this program for the 2026 season. That'd be interim head coach Biff Poggi. Why not just let him take control for a year and then put together a full search once next offseason gets here?

Michigan should consider giving Biff Poggi the job for the 2026 season

With Michigan getting ready for the 2025 Citrus Bowl against Texas, Poggi is the one leading the locker room and the players seem to be rallying around him. This is a tough situation for the playmakers on both sides of the ball, but Poggi has been the one to make sure things continue operating without a hitch.

Michigan just put the finishing touches on its 2026 recruiting class during the Early Signing Period, so you have to imagine those incoming signees would love some staff continuity for when they all make the move to Ann Arbor. Keeping Poggi around could prevent a mass exodus to the portal too.

After spending 2021-2022 with Michigan, Poggi left for the head coach job at Charlotte. He then returned to Ann Arbor and his presence alone has been so much fun to see for countless Michigan fans. There are a lot of folks calling for him to get the nod for '26.

Think about it - Michigan was put in a rough spot this offseason with the Moore investigation that took place. Now at the last minute, with other coaches off the board, the Wolverines have been left scrambling to find a replacement.

Why not delay that search for next year and let Poggi lead the ship until Michigan can make this new hire the right way? From our chair, rocking with Poggi makes a ton of sense, but it's unknown if Warde Manuel thinks that's a good idea or not. We should find out soon what Manuel and Co. decide.
