Michigan is about to pull a fast one on James Franklin and flip an O-line commit

The Michigan Wolverines are used to beating James Franklin, so flipping one of his recruits in the 2026 class will feel like old hat.

To be fair, it's not really one of Franklin's recruits. The former Penn State head coach was just hired at Virginia Tech, so it would be hard to expect him to hang onto all of the recruits in the class.

So far, Franklin has actually done a solid job. He's connected with many of Virginia Tech's commitments and got them on campus or scheduled for visits. One recruit has been missing, though; that's because he's trending to Michigan football.

That's three-star offensive lineman Adrian Hamilton. The 6-foot-2.5, 290-pound offenisve lineman is ranked No. 656 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He's out of Washington, D.C. Hamilton is projected to play center for the Wolverines.

Michigan football close to a flip in 2026

Michigan football has been working on flipping a center in the 2026 class. Sean Stover, a Duke commit, was also on the radar. He visited, but the Wolverines have made more progress with Hamilton. They received an projection to flip the 2026 recruit last week.

More crystal ball projections have come in since then. Once of them is from Brice Marich, who covers Michigan football recruiting for The Michigan Insider. The other projection is from a Virginia Tech insider.

Hamilton is expected to visit for the Ohio State game. That makes it feel like a commitment could be coming soon, maybe this weekend or even before. Things could change, but visits often tell the story in recruiting and it feels like it's easy to see where this is headed.
