The focus is on Michigan football's game against Michigan State this Saturday, but there are some other interesting developments on the recruiting trail.

On Tuesday, there was a decommitment. Sidney Rouleau, a three-star from Texas in the 2027 class, reopened his recruitment just days after an official visit to Tennessee, according to 247 Sports.

Unfortunately, the Wolverines have to worry about another recruiting target. Xavier Muhammad is 6-foot-3.5, 265 pounds, and he is ranked No. 101 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

According to Cody Carpenter of Orangebloods, the Texas site for Rivals, Muhammad is expected to take an official visit to Texas for the Arkansas game on November 21st.

As far as Michigan football is concerned, this is just another development that is less than ideal. Asa Burch, a four-star EDGE in the 2028 class, who was trending to the Wolverines, has been projected to land with Notre Dame instead, which is a blow, in part, because he is a legacy.

Muhammad is one of the top commitments for Michigan in the 2027 class, so holding on to him will be essential for Kyle Whittingham's class. It feels like the 5-3 start has hurt momentum. Whittingham also doesn't generate a ton of excitement, at least in his public appearances. Maybe he's different in the background, but he's 66 years old and there is already hot-seat talk. That has to be impacting things on the trail. At the very least, other schools are surely using that a negative recruiting tool against the Wolverines.

Michigan could fix a major need on the 2027 roster with reclassification

There is some good news for Michigan on the recruiting trail, as Ryan Jung, a top-ranked kicker in the 2028 class, has decided to re-classify and sign as part of the 2027 class.

With Michigan football struggling to make kicks, Jung could come in right away and compete for the job. The Wolverines have missed four field goals over the past two weeks.

Two of those misses happened against Indiana in a game that ended up tied 6-6 at the end of regulation, before Michigan lost in overtime.

The Wolverines will likely try to find a kicker in the portal, too, but Jung could be a long-term solution and he will be nice addition for the 2027 roster as far as being a player who could see the field right away.
