Michigan football still hasn't landed a transfer portal commitment in the 2026 class, but the Wolverines are making significant moves all the same.

New Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham inherited a talented roster. The question was whether or not the Wolverines could retain it. There were early hiccups, but so far, things have gone well, especially with Bryce Underwood's announcement that he's coming back.

Two other potential starters on the offensive line, including last season's left tackle, Blake Frazier, also confirmed they will be back.

Zeke Berry leaves portal to return to Michigan football

Four players who started last season: Cole Sullivan, Zeke Berry, Jake Guarnera, and Andrew Sprague, entered the transfer portal over the weekend.

However, on Tuesday, one of them, Zeke Berry, confirmed that he's coming back to Michigan football, in a massive bit of news for the Wolverines. Berry has started 25 games over the past two seasons. In 2025, he earned Second-Team All-Big Ten honors.

Berry led the Big Ten with 10 pass breakups this season. He had nine as a junior to go along with three interceptions and 70 tackles. The former four-star recruit has played nickelback and corner for the Wolverines.

Under Jay Hill, BYU defensive backs have thrived over the past two seasons with 39 interceptions. In 2024, 12 different players intercepted a pass, which led college football.

Michigan has targeted some other defensive backs in the portal, such as Smith Snowden of Utah. It's not clear how Berry's decision will impact that, but if the Wolverines could add the Utah defensive back, too, the secondary, which could include Rod Moore, will be elite.
