Michigan football fans have mixed feelings about the Wolverines' 24-22 win over Northwestern on Saturday.
The Wolverines should have dominated the game, based on total yardage. Michigan had 496 yards compared to 245 for Northwestern. It was basically 2-1. The Wildcats converted two third downs compared to 12 for the Wolverines.
Despite three turnovers, Underwood accounted for over 300 total yards. Michigan football only 61 rushing yards. The Wolverines also might be the first team to ever win a game with a minus five turnover ratio.
Michigan football fans are debating what it could mean for the College Football Playoff picture, but if the Wolverines win the Big Ten championship, they will be in no matter what.
Some might say that's not possible. But it is. There is a realistic chance of it happening, at least of Michigan making it to Indianapolis. Beating Indiana is another story.
Michigan football Big Ten title game scenario
However, if the Wolverines beat Maryland, and somehow put together a mistake-free game against Ohio State, winning for a fifth year in a row, the Wolverines would still need some help to reach the Big Ten championship game.
USC has to lose. The Trojans play Oregon this week. So if the Ducks win, that would take care of that. Michigan also needs Oregon to lose, though. The Ducks play at Washington in the final week of the season, in a rivalry game.
Washington is good enough to make that game interesting. If Michigan takes care of business, plus Oregon beats USC and Washington beats Oregon, Michigan football would play for the Big Ten title.
