Michigan football is viewed as the leader in the recruitment of running back Savion Hiter, who was just upgraded to a five-star recruit on Monday.
Hiter got a boost in the rankings update from On3.com this week and according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, he's the top-ranked running back in 2026. He's also ranked 16th overall.
Hiter, now a five-star recruit, is 5-foot-11, 200 pounds, and is out of Virginia. Michigan football is among the four finalists. Tennessee, Georgia, and Ohio State are the others still in the mix for Hiter's commitment.
The Wolverines are also trending up in the recruitment of four-star running back Javian Osborne, who was projected to U-M by experts from 247 Sports and On3.com last week after he canceled his visit to Texas following a change in the running backs coach.
Top-50 recruits schedule visits to Michigan football
Michigan football is in a strong position to land some elite running backs, maybe two of them in 2026. They are also trending up with other key positions on offense.
The Wolverines will be hosting a five-star wide receiver, which is a promising development. Yet, it was also reported that Michigan football will host tight end Ian Premer, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound tight end out of Great Bend, Kansas.
This is according to Steve Wiltfong of On3.com who also reported that Premer, who is ranked 44th overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, will also visit Miami and Notre Dame this spring.
Spring visits are becoming even more important as recruits are making commitments earlier and earlier. It's worth noting with Premer that the Wolverines landed the top-ranked player from Kansas in the 2025 class (Andrew Babalola). It's also Sherrone Moore's home state.
