Michigan football QB Bryce Underwood compared to former NFL MVP

Bryce Underwood could go down as the best quarterback in Michigan football history, at least if the recruiting experts are accurate.

Michigan football fans can hardly contain their excitement about Bryce Underwood, the No. 1 overall player and quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class who signed with the Wolverines.

We don't know If Underwood is going to start next season. Mikey Keene formerly of Fresno State and UCF was added via the transfer portal as a security blanket and mentor.

However, if Underwood lives up to what the talent evaluators say he could be, then it's going to be difficult for Michigan football to keep him off the field.

On3 released its final rankings for the 2025 class and Underwood remained the No. 1 recruit in the class. He was actually the first recruit to ever achieve a 100 score from the On3 rating system and Charles Power, the top recruiting scout for On3 explained why.

"The combination of size, arm talent, and athleticism is reminiscent of players like Josh Allen and Cam Newton," Power wrote.

Future Michigan football QB compared to NFL MVP

Newton led Auburn to a national championship and won the Heisman Trophy before being selected No. 1 overall by the Carolina Panthers. In the 2015 season, he won the NFL MVP award. Josh Allen isn't a bad player to be compared to either.

Michigan football fans know that Underwood has an elite arm. Yet, some are underestimating his athleticism. He's been compared to Vince Young for a reason. That's a pretty rare combination and I don't think Vince Young could throw the ball as well as Bryce Underwood does.

The kid is a generational talent. He might be the most talented quarterback to ever play for Michigan football. Keene is a solid player. His experience will be leaned on, especially early in the season, but by the time the Ohio State game rolls around, I fully expect Bryce Underwood to be the starting quarterback.

He's just that good.
